Heritage Revealed tells the story of the Former Explosives Magazine Compound, its history, rediscovery and ultimately its transformation from an abandoned military site to an exemplary effort in built-heritage conservation and creative architectural design.
In the spring of 2012, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center at The Hong Kong Jockey Club Former Explosives Magazine officially opened. Through careful adaptive re-use, sensitive changes and thoughtful additions, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center has infused four heritage buildings with new life.
The result is a memorable complex that provides a unique venue for exhibits, the performing arts and an array of multi-disciplinary activities for the community; ultimately, giving a new lease of life to these historical buildings for future generations to enjoy.
Heritage Revealed is written by a team of architectural conservationists from The University of Hong Kong with the book's photography mainly done by the well-known architectural photographer, John Nye. These elements have come together to provide important record of the revitalization of this historic landmark.
